Here at TRADIE, we love the earth and that’s why we are dedicated to minimising our environmental footprint. We have a long-term set of goals we are implementing with the aim of working towards a healthier and happier planet for future generations.

Below are some of the things we are currently actioning and what we are still working towards.

OUR
FABRICS

Organic Bamboo Fabric

We are now making one of our most popular range of products in viscose derived from organically grown bamboo. The brand of bamboo used in TRADIE undies is Tanboocel, more information can be found HERE. Bamboo grows quicker and uses less water than cotton, making it a more sustainable option than cotton. It also consumes significant amounts of CO2 emissions which help with removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Viscose derived from bamboo is generally a lot softer than cotton, has natural antibacterial properties and wicks away sweat making it the perfect option to support your Crown Jewels. Below is the lifecycle of bamboo being processed into our garment.

Recycled Polyester Fabric

Here at TRADIE we have made the transition for all polyester underwear to now use recycled materials during the creation of our fabrics. That means each time you purchase a product with polyester in it, you'll know that you're doing your bit to recycle products that would have ended up in land fill. Below is the lifecycle of our recycled polyester from plastic through to garment.

UPPAREL

We have partnered with UPPAREL who are an Australasian textile waste recycling company. Their mission is to eradicate textile waste from Australasia's landfills with the goal to protect and preserve the planet for future generations.

OUR
PACKAGING

It’s important to us that not only are we moving to make our products more sustainable, but that the packaging we are putting them in is working towards the same goal. Below are some of the different ways our products come packaged across our business and what we are doing to make them better for our environment.

Less Plastic

Reduced the number of plastic polybags we send to stores by 1.3 tonnes per annum.

FSC

Using FSC packaging guarantees that the materials used are responsibly sourced from forest management. We are currently transitioning our packaging to be FSC approved.

LDPE

LDPE is a plastic which is more recyclable than other plastics. We are doing everything we can to remove all plastics from our packaging but where we can’t we are attempting to use LDPE plastic.

TIC Hangers

All of our plastic hangers are TIC, which means that they are collected from retail stores, recycled and then re-used. We are also switching non reusable plastic hooks to cardboard hooks where possible.

Plastic Film

Removed the thin layer of plastic film from swing tickets and stickers. Saving 1.2 tonnes of plastic to date.

Cardboard

To ensure cardboard boxes aren’t going to waste, we collect them at our DC and reuse them when sending stock or parcels out.

ELECTRICITY

Most of the electricity used in our head office and DC is solar powered. We also use LED lights to lower our energy usage.

2

Soft Plastic Bin

Introduce a soft plastic bin to our office to ensure that incorrect types of plastics don’t end up in recycling or in landfill.

3

4

6

Compostable Tape

Use compostable tape when packing and shipping cartons in our DC.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Below are some of the ways you can do your part in reducing your environmental footprint as a conscious consumer.

Wash as Needed

Products breakdown the more we wash them and synthetic textiles like polyester shed tiny pieces of plastic with every wash and wear.

Wash with Cold Water

Washing with hot water releases microfibers & absorbes more colours & dyes which pollute the environment. Washing with cold water uses less energy.

Use a Non-toxic Washing Detergent

Using non-toxic washing detergent helps avoid the polluted water from reaching our marine life.

Let your Clothes Dry Naturally

Air drying your clothes reduces your carbon footprint. Also, dryers use a lot of energy & they damage your clothes over time.

Only Wash with a Full Load

Washing on a full load means your conserving water and reducing the number of times you do laundry. It also avoids the amount of detergent you use.
